Netflix Xbox

An Xbox can be more than just a gaming console. With its platform designed for apps, it can also make a great media centre where you can centralise your television viewing. Among the many apps for viewing videos that it supports, there is also Netflix. Xbox is excellent for streaming videos from Netflix.

The only real problem you might face is the fact that Netflix Australia has barely more than 1200 titles to offer. This can be a real downer when you compare it with the over-9000 titles available to the American subscribers. This is why when you get Netflix on Xbox, your first question should be how to get access to more content.

Setting Up Netflix on Xbox

Getting Australian Netflix on Xbox is a fairly simple process. You need an account on Netflix and the app installed on your Xbox. Registering on Netflix involves filling out a form, which also includes your payment details. You can select the plan you want and create a login id and password.

You then need to go on your Xbox and connect to your Xbox Live account. In order to download the Netflix Xbox app, you will need to go to ‘Apps’ and search for it. You will be asked to confirm your purchase and the app will be downloaded. To open the app, simply locate it in ‘My Apps’, click on it to open it, and log in with your details.

If you want more than just Australian Netflix content on Netflix Xbox, you will need to employ the use of a DNS based product like Unblock-Us. This product tricks Netflix into believing that you are logging in from within the US. This will allow you to get access to the American library.

Getting More Netflix on Xbox with Unblock-Us

How it does this is by redirecting you through its own DNS servers instead of your ISP’s servers. It then gives you an American IP address with which you reach the Netflix servers. Your IP address is dependent on your location. Since Netflix shows you content based on your location, it will show you the American directory when it sees the American IP.

In order to do so, you will first need to create an account with Unblock-Us. This will cost you $5 if you opt for the monthly payment plan, or $50 for the annual payment plan. When you register, Unblock-Us gives your device permission to log in through their servers. Now all you need to do is configure the Xbox.

What you basically need to do is change the DNS server settings in the Network settings to point your connection to the Unblock-Us servers. To do this, you need to find ‘Settings’ on your dashboard. Locate the Network settings, and select the type of internet connection you have.

Then, you need to go to the DNS settings and set it to manual. This means you will need to manually enter the DNS addresses for both primary and secondary DNS servers. These you can get from the Unblock-Us website. Check to see if the changes are being reflected and save.

Xbox will now connect to the internet with the new settings. If successful, you need to shut it down and restart. Once it has started up again, open Netflix on Xbox, and log in. If you were logged in previously, you might need to log out first, and then log in. If everything has been set up properly, you will be able to view the American Netflix library.
